We all respond to vehicle accident's where the air bag's have not deployed. This can be a very dangerous situation when we have to work inside the vehicle for any reason. You should cut the battery cables and make sure nothing has punctured the battery then wait a short time for the air bag module to discharge before entering the vehicle. This is a short list of the times for the module to discharge. Will update this list when possible. House fires used to be one of the most dangerous job's we do, but the newer cars with front and side impact air bags, the hybrid car's with very dangerous high voltages and maybe even hydrogen fuel, alcohol fuels, gas charged struts for suspension, hood and trunk support the simple car fire can turn deadly in a big hurry. Just to get things started, we are all volunteer's and we want to do the best that we can and that means training, although we do not often have the time. While anyone can attend the courses taught at the National Fire Academy at no cost except for meal's, it is impossible for most, if not all of us to go as we have our regular job's and family to take care of. While the main intent of this page is going to be informing you of our county training schedule's, it is also going to list some good training resources on the internet. The first will be www.training.fema.gov their you will find link's to FEMA's Emergency Management Institute, The National Fire Academy's Virtual Campus, and links to NFIRS training. I will add other links to other sites also, but this is a start. You can access about 75 different courses at this site and you will receive a certificate from FEMA or the National Fire Academy on all of these courses. There is a lot of free training out here on the internet for firefighting, EMS, Arson investigating and just about anything else you care to learn about.
Just received this by email. It seems that at least one of the courses on the EMI training page is soon going to be required by all First Responders. You can read the email here. This is a pretty simple course and you will receive a Certificate from the Emergency Management Institute. Click here to view mine. Asst. Chief Terry Hutto and I have taken most of the courses on this site and the certificate's make nice wallpaper.
This is a link to FEMA's
website on the NIMS that explains their plans to make this a requirement for all emergency
responders and state's. |
