A
little history of Stateline Fire by Joel Young:
As
far back as I can remember over my 45 years of life...I can remember
the days when Mr. Victor Chatham , Mr. Dewey Stephenson (Former Fire
Chief), Mr. James B. Waller , Jr., Mr. . Ricky Seabrook, Mr. Jimmy Melvin,
Mr. Gary Crater and Mr. David L. Robertson were pretty much the
Firemen at State Line Vol. Fire Department. Mr. Earnest "Pete"
Gardner (Former Mayor) was also a member in the later years These
people had only a 1949 Ford Chassis Pumper with a 250 gallon tank and
500 GPM Pump , in which to fight fires with. This Pumper is still
owned by the Town of State Line and we hope to be able to show it
again soon. The second Truck that was obtained by The Town, was a 1966
International Chassis , with a 750 GPM Howe Pump and 750 Gallon tank. This
pumper was replaced and later sold by auction and the Town took
delivery of the Current Truck , which is a 1991 Central States Pumper
, with a 1000 GPM Hale Pump and 1000 Gallon tank on a 1991 GMC Chassis. The
Fire Station at State Line, as we know it today was put in place by a
Grant / Loan and was the foresight of Mr. James B. Waller Jr. , Former
Mayor of State Line. Mr. Waller and the Board of Alderman at the time. These
people saw the need for an adequate Fire Truck / Fire Protection and
a Station in which to house equipment. This process took a long time
but with the hard work and perseverance of Mayor Waller and Board of
Aldermen, it came to be. To these people, that are mentioned , we all
owe a big Thanks. We at State Line Volunteer Fire Department, have
been able to save lives and property with the equipment that we now have. We
hope to be taking delivery of a 2006 Water Master Vacuum Tanker to
better serve our Citizens with increased Fire Protection in the very
near future.
